At Chatfield, we have our own area called the Titanic. We called it that because it looks like the bow of the Titanic. It was built in 2006, and over the years, people have adopted the name, and it will most likely be called that forever.

As many of us know, the Royal Mail Steamer (RMS) Titanic, struck an iceberg around 11:40 PM on Sunday, April 14, 1912, just four days after leaving South Hampton on her maiden voyage to New York City. It took two hours and forty minutes for the sinking to occur. It was completely sunk at 2:20 AM on Monday, April 15, 1912. This tragedy resulted in the deaths of more than 1,500 people out of an estimated 2,224 people. This is of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history. Today is the 109th anniversary of this event.
