If you paid any attention to the University of Colorado’s football games this past season, you may be familiar with a man by the name of Travis Hunter. The fleet-footed, two-way superstar transferred to CU ahead of the 2023 season and has since improved his game rapidly in Boulder. His efforts with the Buffaloes this season led him to be one of the most exciting players in college football.

Travis Hunter Jr. was born on May 18, 2003, in West Palm Beach, Florida. This past season, he was a wide receiver and cornerback for the University of Colorado Buffaloes football team. Prior to his collegiate career, Hunter attended Collins Hill High School in Georgia before committing to Jackson State University. He played football there for the 2022-2023 season under the then-head coach and former NFL star, Deion Sanders. Shortly after that season, he transferred to the University of Colorado in Boulder, along with his new head coach.
In the two most recent seasons at CU, Hunter thrived in front of consistently packed Folsom Field crowds. During those seasons, he racked up 153 total receptions, 1979 total yards, and 20 touchdowns as a wide receiver. As a cornerback, he had 7 interceptions and 66 tackles. Not only did Travis perform super well, but in 2024, CU finished with a solid record of 9-4 (9 wins, 4 losses). Their efforts resulted in a trip to the 2024 Valero Alamo Bowl against Brigham Young University.

With the conclusion of the 2024 regular season, Travis Hunter was named as a candidate for the Heisman Trophy along with Dillon Gabriel (Oregon), Ashton Jeanty (Boise State), and Cam Ward (Miami). On the evening of December 14, 2024, Travis Hunter was named the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner after receiving 552 first-place votes, the next closest being Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty (309 first-place votes). Currently, Hunter is projected to be drafted 5th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Already, at the young age of 21, Travis Hunter has shown tremendous strides toward his football career. It will be interesting to see where he ends up in the upcoming years.
