Senior Traditions. What are they?
At Chatfield we have many Senior Traditions that the majority of the Senior class takes a part in which have been valued and upheld throughout the years. Traditions like for example Senior Sunrise, Senior Skip day, Senior Parking spaces, Senior Backpacks and Senior Overalls mark the importance of embracing the fun and excitement that comes with the final year of high school. Each tradition represents something important that begins and occurs during a student’s senior year.
What is Senior Sunrise?

Senior Sunrise is a tradition at Chatfield that holds extreme importance. It is a tradition where the senior class gathers to watch the sunrise together, at the beginning of their final school year. It serves as a symbolic and memorable way to celebrate the start of senior year. In Chatfield’s case, Senior sunrise has been held at Red Rocks Amphitheater where students gather on the rocks to experience the sun rising on their final year of high school
What is Senior Sunset?

At the end of the school year, graduating seniors gather to watch the sunset as a symbolic farewell to their time in high school and to celebrate their accomplishments with friends and classmates. This tradition is often paired with a senior sunrise, which marks the start of the senior year. It symbolizes the “setting sun” of their high school careers and acts as the class’ last get-together before they graduate and part ways.
What is Senior Skip day?
Senior class members decide to skip class on the same day, a practice known as “Senior Skip Day.” Before graduating, it’s typically viewed as a harmless rebellion or an unforgettable rite of passage. The “Common Skip Day” is held on the Monday after Prom. On Skip Day while some groups organize events (such as picnics, amusement parks, or hanging out at places like Red Rocks or Clement Park), others choose to simply unwind at home.
What are the Senior Parking Spaces?
Since seniors are the oldest students and frequently have more obligations, such as applying for jobs or college, schools frequently grant them priority parking privileges as a benefit. Seniors find these spots more convenient because they are typically in a designated parking lot or closer to the school building. Seniors need to register their car and show a unique parking permit or sticker that the school has provided in order to park there. Seniors can additionally paint and customize a designated parking area with themes plus designs, with permission from the school, by buying materials like rollers and water-based exterior paint, and provided design ideas. Seniors can make a lasting impression before they graduate thanks to this exercise, which encourages creativity and school spirit. We love our Charger Pride!
What are Senior Overalls and Backpacks?
Senior backpacks and overalls are common high school senior year tradition. Students personalize childhood-style backpacks or black denim overalls to showcase their individuality, school enthusiasm, and pride as they celebrate their last year. Backpacks with nostalgic cartoon characters serve as a reminder of their youth before adulthood, while overalls are adorned with school colors, names, and glitter.
All of these Senior Traditions have been valued by the Chatfield community, especially the Senior Class. Upcoming and current Seniors should be aware of these traditions so that they can participate in events and traditions that unite the graduating class together. Traditions are important in creating memories that a student can cherish during their final year of High School.
