The Strength In Chatfield:

When people are feeling hopeless their peers connect them to their Sources of Strength. Sources of Strength is a suicide prevention group that spreads hope and strength into the community through the students that are involved in it. The mission statement of this program is “to provide the highest quality evidence-based prevention for suicide, violence, bullying and substance abuse by training, supporting, and empowering both peer leaders and caring adults to impact their world through the power of connection, hope, help and strength”. This amazing program helps people so that they can continue to live a healthy, happy life. The purpose of training the peers is so that they can connect people to other parts of their wheel (shown below).

Not everyone is strong in all parts of the wheel. It only takes one person to help connect others to their strengths. When peers were asked what they got out of the training and how they felt about the program one senior said, “I felt like people really cared and wanted to make a difference. I really hope to continue with the program and making lives better” (ThienTran Le). This program helps people stay strong and connect in areas where they are weak in. What are your strengths and how could Sources of Strength help you?

Do you need guidance? Do you want to get involved? Mrs. Rarich is available in the counseling center during the school day for more information or for help. You are never alone, let us help.
