Chatfield Physics teacher Mr. Lang, has been nominated for the the 2025 Local Physics Teacher of the Year award! Between teaching full time here at Chatfield Senior High and part time at the School of Mines, his hard work and effort is admired by our community here at Chatfield, and we wish to bring light to his achievement.
This major recognition comes from nominations, including recommendations from both Principal Thanos and a professor at the School of Mines. Mr. Lang thought the award was “awesome” since he’s relatively new to teaching, having only been in high school classrooms for four years. Juggling teaching, coaching JV basketball, and his involvement with national organizations proves his commitment goes far beyond the classroom.
A surprising detail is that Mr. Lang was once “terrified” of physics in college. Coming from a rural background, the subject felt intimidating until in college where he was able to connect it to his interests, specifically sports. He played baseball and found himself fascinated by the physics of a curve ball or a basketball shot. He chose teaching over his original plan of mechanical engineering, realizing he preferred interacting with students over sitting at a computer all day.
Mr. Lang’s main advice for students is to push past fear and “try as many things as you can,” especially taking challenging honors and AP classes. He emphasizes that taking those opportunities now can lead to scholarships and set you up for future success. He ultimately values happiness and job fulfillment, choosing his teaching career—which he genuinely enjoys.
