In today’s society, everyone is always comparing themselves to social media influencers, whether they be from Instagram, Snapchat, Tiktok, or the plethora of other social media platforms that are accessible. The questions being asked are: “What is beauty?”, “What is considered beautiful?”, “What is trendy?”, “How do we fit in?”

There is no real answer to those questions, to some people, beauty is now defined by appearance. Makeup has caused so many issues such as being insecure, changing your persona, being uncomfortable in your own body, and other problems.

The makeup industry is colossal now, being all anyone is talking about and fantasizing over. It’s taking over the web and people are expressing themselves by doing makeup several ways. Most of this is based on influencers’ opinions. Teenagers, even older adults, are getting more and more insecure every single day because of social media, wishing they looked like someone else. The makeup industry has gained teenagers, older women, and adults trust because their products cover up their insecurities. It’s like painting a canvas on someone else’s face, but what everyone has to realize is that beauty is happiness, and nothing else defines beauty. Everyone is beautiful in their own way. Sure there are models and social media stars that are “perfect”. In reality no one is perfect, everyone has their own insecurities, especially if it is someone with so many eyes on them. Makeup is used to gain confidence and express who you are with vibrate colors. The most known, high-end name brands that are used for makeup are Tarte, Milk makeup, Urban Decay, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Jefree Star Cosmetics, Too Faced, etc. Moreover, people rely on makeup and fake personas in order to climb the chain in society. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but what most beholders have is altered vision.
